Before the 1883 eruption there was Karakatoa which consisted of three islands:
Rakata
Sertung
and a smaller island called "Polish Hat"
Why polish hat?
Because it is covered in trees and very green and small.
There are also three volcanic cones:
Rakata (which is the main cone)
Danan (which is believed to be a twin volcano)
and Perbutan
4 months before the eruption
there was incresing seismic activity and preview eruptions to the main eruption.
These prieview eruptions could be heard 100 miles away from the volcano.
Also these prieview eruptions created earthquakes which could be felt all the way to Austrailia.
Then the main eruption occured

Historians
say that the sunset depicted in the famous painting "scream"
might have been inspired by the sunsets after krakatoa erupted.
